Catching Up

Well, I suppose it is about time I started writing again. There is so much going on. So little time for communication with all the people I should be talking to at this point.

Catch-up: I graduated from Michigan State in May with a BA in international relations and specializations in Asian Studies and Political Economy. I have been dating my amazing boyfriend Mike for almost two years now (November 16th!) and we made the big move to an apartment together in August. I now live in Lansing, working for a nonprofit community development organization, Allen Neighborhood Center, serving the Eastside through the Americorps Vista program (meaning I make jack for cash biweekly). I found out in July that my eldest sister, Becky, is preggo--then two blinks later I find out my other sister, Rachel, is having twins! All good news.

I think I have figured out that I want to go to law school. I figured it out a little late, though, so I am now busting ass to score well on the LSAT. Scored a 158 on the first try... not terrible but certainly nowhere near where I would like to be. I am hoping at least for the high 160s. I don't want to speculate or jinx anything, but since switching a week ago from Kaplan prep materials to Powerscore, I already feel better. Contrapositives, Sch-mantrapositives! Anyway, this blog is essentially the sign that studying has become overbearing. I am sitting here studying at Gone Wired (a local coffee shop with live acoustics--awesome!) and breaking for blogging.

Really this all started because I was looking at my sister's blog. Becky's dog, Otto, died last night after she dropped him at the animal hospital and she wrote a really beautiful note about him. I feel terrible. Not only do I feel so much empathy for my sister, who lost a pup who has always meant the world to her, but I am going to miss the little man. If you ever saw him prance across the yard the way he did, oh lord. Most beautiful four-legged guy I have ever seen. Loyal and affectionate, too. I'm sorry, Becky.

I can't stay too far away from the LSAT prep stuff for long. My friend Molly is also looking to go to law school some time soon, and I can't stop repeating the lines she says to get pumped up for being a lawyer. Perhaps I will rant it intelligently one day: "I'M out of order? This WHOLE COURT is out of order!" ~Al
